Güç Transformatörleri
Power Transformers are transformers designed and manufactured according to customer requests, national and international standards (IEC, IEEE etc.) at voltage levels of 36 kV and above, at powers of 5000 kVA and above. Power transformers have a wide range of technical features such as power, voltage, and setting. Power transformers are used in electrical transmission lines, industrial facilities, power production centers and for internal electrical needs.
ASTOR, which has a production capacity of up to 1000 MVA at a voltage level of 800 kV, completed the production of a 125 MVA power transformer prototype at a voltage level of 400 kV in 2018 with its R&D Center studies and sent it to KEMA for short-circuit mechanical strength testing.

Transformers designed to operate under specific operating conditions, overcurrents, overvoltages and reactive loads for special purposes are called industrial transformers. Due to special operating conditions, the designs of these types of transformers are specially addressed. Industrial transformers are seen as the top of the transformer sector due to the knowledge, workmanship experience, care and precision required by both design and production technology.
Our company serves its customers with its competent engineering staff and R&D Center regarding these types of transformers used for a wide variety of purposes such as shunt reactors, arc furnace transformers, current rectifier transformers, phase shifting transformers, electrostatic filter transformers, grounding transformers.
It differs from oil-immersed transformers according to the cooling method. HV windings are transformers coated with epoxy cast resin under vacuum. LV windings are transformers that can be manufactured with both cast resin and resin-impregnated prepreg methods.
They are manufactured with natural air cooling (AN) or fan cooling (AF) options in the 25-25000 kVA power range, up to 36 kV voltage level. Up to 40% power increase can be achieved by using a cooling fan.
Dry-type transformer manufacturing, which requires advanced technology and knowledge, has been increasing its market share compared to oil-type transformers in recent years with increasing customer demands. However, in today’s technology, especially the production of large-power dry-type transformers above 36 kV voltage level involves technological difficulties. Research and development studies on this subject continue at full speed. It is preferred more than oil-type distribution transformers for reasons such as not having a cooling liquid that is harmful to the environment like oil, having less fire risk, not requiring maintenance, being resistant to humidity and moisture, being able to be put into operation without any problems at any time despite not being in operation for a long time, and being able to be loaded up to 40% more than the nominal power with fan cooling support. However, dry type distribution transformers, whose most important disadvantage is that their sales price is higher than that of an oil type transformer of the same power, have been steadily increasing their sales share in recent years.
Oil-immersed distribution transformers are transformers that change input and output voltages at desired rates up to 36 kV voltage level and 5000 kVa power, and in which the heat generated during operation is dissipated with the transformer oil and cooling is provided by the transformer oil so that it does not exceed the permitted operating temperature. These types of transformers can be examined under 2 (two) main headings as hermetic and expansion tank:
Hermetic Oil-immersed Distribution Transformers
They are manufactured in the power range of 25 – 5000 kVA, up to 36 kV high voltage level, three or single phase, oil, natural cooling (ONAN), idle tap changer or automatic tap changer under load, and can be used both outside and inside. Hermetic oil-immersed distribution transformers are manufactured with the principle of balancing the oil pressure and atmospheric pressure at the desired temperature by filling the oil under vacuum and preventing the cooling oil from coming into contact with the atmosphere.
In hermetic oil type distribution transformers, internal heat is controlled by the natural expansion and contraction of the tank wave walls as a result of changing oil pressure due to thermal changes. Mechanical design and manufacturing are carried out in a way that can withstand these effects.
Hermetic oil type distribution transformers have lower heights than transformers with expansion tanks. Therefore, they can be used in smaller areas.
Since the oil in hermetic transformers does not come into contact with the atmosphere, they do not require oil changes at certain periods as in transformers with expansion tanks.
Transformer with Expansion Tank
Transformers with expansion tanks are the same as hermetic transformers in terms of core and coil structure. The dimensions of the expansion tanks of these types of transformers are designed and manufactured as a result of calculations to store the expansion of the oil, the volume of which increases with temperature.
Since transformers with expansion tanks are open to the atmosphere, the changing oil pressure due to thermal effects is provided by the silica gel (air dryer) in the tank of the transformer, and air exchange is provided by removing the humidity of the air.
As a result of the air exchange caused by the temperature differences in the transformer with expansion tank that is put into operation, the silica gel loses its feature over time and causes the oil to become moist and its structure to deteriorate. Therefore, it is necessary to perform maintenance such as changing the silica gel at certain periods and measuring the breakdown voltage by taking samples from the oil.
